How I work

You don’t have to fix yourself to deserve a different life. Our work together is less about solving you and more about noticing, feeling and choosing, so you can actually live the life you’ve built.

Sound familiar?

You’re the one people rely on.It’s been a while since anyone asked what you need.

  • You can see the pattern clearly. You still find yourself inside it.
  • You say yes before you’ve asked yourself the question.
  • You reached the goals. The sense of fulfillment didn’t arrive with them.
  • Your mind keeps working long after the day is done.
  • You’re tired in a way sleep doesn’t fix.
  • The way you’ve always functioned has started to cost more than it gives.

Sometimes the very things that helped us become capable, dependable, and successful are the things we begin to question. And perhaps that’s worth getting curious about.

Find where to begin · One minute

You’ve spent years figuring things out for everyone else. Let this help you figure out one thing for yourself.

I often think of stress and old hurts as weights on a scale. We can carry a surprising amount, sometimes for years, without realizing how heavy it’s become. In graduate school, a professor suggested that for many people, the scale begins to tip around forty. I was turning forty myself, and had already witnessed how easily that could happen in the lives of my parents and people I loved.

For those who’ve worked their way through chaos to build a successful life, this can be especially difficult. You finally get where you were going, look around, and quietly wonder, is this really what I want? Even asking that question can take courage.

Over the years, I’ve watched people begin to put down what they’ve been carrying and make room for something more. More ease. More choice. More of their own lives, one intentional step at a time.

So, where is your scale tipping?

Sometimes we’re ready to make sense of what we’ve been through. Sometimes we’re wondering what we want to create next. And sometimes it’s a little of both.

Take a minute to explore what feels true for you right now. There are no right answers, and you don’t have to have everything figured out.

Three quick questions. Go with what feels true right now, and you’ll see whether therapy, coaching or a conversation first might be a good place to start. Nothing you choose is saved or sent anywhere.

About

Meet Karen

Karen Anderson, MS, LMFT, is a therapist, educator, clinical supervisor, retreat facilitator, and creator of Life Wide Awake™ (the curriculum she teaches at her retreats).

For nearly two decades, Karen's work has centered on relationships—the relationship we have with ourselves, the people we love, the roles we take on, and the patterns we often don't realize we're repeating.

Her approach brings together clinical experience, psychological insight, curiosity, direct conversation, and the belief that awareness creates choice.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Nevada and Washington.

A Place to Be Human on Substack

The longer I listen, the more I wonder.

Musings, observations, questions, and occasional love notes about the mysteries and contradictions of being human. The stories we tell ourselves, the patterns we repeat, and what becomes possible when we stop needing to have all the answers.

A little wisdom. A lot of warmth. And enough room for everyone to find their own meaning.
